This guide

This guide was made to help visitors in discovering the sea and mountains of the GAL territory in its multiple aspects: historical, archaological, artistic and cultural.

The area of GAL Mare Monti

The sea and mountains of the GAL area include a strip of Central Sardinia that extends for a brief stretch from the west coast to the east coast, between Budoni and Siniscola. Part of this stretch from west to east includes the territories of the sub regions of Planargia, Marghine, Nurorese and Baronie.

Planargia and Marghine are located in the central-western quadrant of Sardinia, in a portion of that territory that rises up from the sea to regions that are more internal and mountainous and that include a series of eco-systems of great naturalistic value.
Both areas, in fact, besides being very important for archaeological remains save intact an exceptional environmental patrimony. The plateau of Marghine, in particular, has the highest concentration of monuments of the pre-Nuraghical and Nuraghical epochs present in all the island.

In the Nuorese-Baronie area that occupies the opposite side of Sardinia, the rough mountains mark a singular contrast with the sea of rare transparency.
In the most internal zones, the territory is characterized by picturesque glimpses of rivers, lakes and waterfalls, in addition to woods that constitute the natural habitat of a rich variety of fauna. On the coastline you can admire long beaches with white and very fine sand, while limestone and granite massifs alternate with gentle hills, with the Mediterranean scrub that surrounds orchards, vineyards, olive groves and pastures.
